Bible Passage: Genesis 6:9-22, God Instructs Noah
God Has a Good Plan
Lesson: I can trust and obey God because God’s got a good plan for me.
Today’s story comes to us from the Bible. (Hold up a Bible.)
The Bible is God’s word to us, so we know that everything it says is true. (Open the Bible and set it down in front of you as you give the lesson.)
God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son – Jesus.
Today’s story is about a man named Noah. Noah lived in a time when people did not obey God’s Word. They did what they wanted, and they did not care what God thought about them. Noah was the one man who obeyed God. He loved God, and He did what God asked Him to do. God decided he wanted to start over by flooding the world. God wanted to save Noah and His family, so He asked Noah to build an ark, a giant boat that would help his family ride the waves. Noah had never built an ark before, but he trusted God and did exactly what God commanded. Because Noah trusted God, his family was saved. God has a plan for each one of you. He wants you to listen to His Word, the Bible, and He wants you to trust and obey Him. Noah’s life teaches us we can trust and obey God because God’s got a good plan for us.
Simple Prayer:
Dear God, Help us to trust and obey You. Amen
Discussion Questions:
Wiggle Tamer: Play a game of Red Light/ Green Light. Remind the kids that their parents trust and obey traffic lights, and that keeps them and us safe.
Small Group Memory Verse: Say the verse together several times. Talk about the verse’s meaning.
Questions: Who was Noah? What did God tell Noah to do?
Why did Noah obey God and build the boat?
What happened to Noah’s family when he trusted and obeyed God?
Game: Test the kids’ ability to obey by playing some Simon Says. See who can stay in the longest. Who is the best at listening and obeying Simon?
Make this week’s lesson real:
Eating: During your mealtime prayer, thank God that we can trust Him.
Playtime: Pick a game or a craft that requires following directions. Point out to the kids that when you trust and follow directions, the game or the craft goes as it should. Ask them what would happen if you didn’t follow directions.
Snuggling: Cuddle up with your little ones and tell them how much you love them. Remind them that God has a plan for them. Tell them that you are praying they will trust and obey God as they grow older. Go over the memory verse together as well: “But I trust in you, Lord. I say, ‘You are my God.’” Psalm 31:14 (NIrV)
Activity:
Items Needed: Brown construction paper, glue or tape, scissors
You can prepare some pre-sized templates of the pieces to be cut out that the kids can trace on their papers.
Have the kids cut out a large semi-circle, a rectangle (about half the width of the flat part of the semi-circle), and a triangle (with a base a little wider than the rectangle). Cut out the shapes, and then assemble the ark. Attach the rectangle to the semicircle to make the house on top of the ark, and then attach the triangle to be the roof of the ark.
