Moses Makes a Big Mistake
Lesson: Moses grew up as a prince in Egypt, but one big mistake almost ruined everything.
Memory Verse: Hebrews 11:27 By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible.
Key Points:
Moses grew up like a prince in a palace.
Moses saw how the Israelite slaves were treated. Exodus 2:11
In his anger, Moses killed an Egyptian slave driver. Exodus 2:12
God can use anyone, even if they make a big mistake.
In today’s lesson, we’re going to learn another story about Moses. We’ve already learned that as a baby, Moses’ mom put him in a basket along the river in order to save his life. Moses was found by the Egyptian king’s daughter. This was a big deal. Moses was adopted by the princess and was raised in a palace! He had all the toys and food he could ever want and he probably never had to make his bed! As Moses grew up, he understood that he was really an Israelite who had been adopted into king Pharaoh’s family. And, he was aware that his people, the Israelites, were slaves to the king. The Israelites were horribly mistreated and that really bothered Moses. In fact, one day he went out to see the Israelite slaves and he saw an Egyptian hitting one of the workers. This made Moses so angry that he ended up killing the Egyptian. Wait a minute! Isn’t Moses supposed to be a good guy in the Bible? Yes, but even the good guys make mistakes some times. And, God forgave Moses and still used him to do great things. That’s true for us, too. When we mess up, God will forgive us and he will still use us to help others!
